Ebenezer Baptist Church, a church of the Baptist General Conference of Canada, is seeking an assistant pastor in Wetaskiwin, AB., a growing community of 14,000 located 50 minutes south of Alberta’s capital of Edmonton. Wetaskiwin is a community steeped in Alberta history and has historically served an agriculture based economy. It has a growing manufacturing base and is also increasingly becoming a bedroom community for Edmonton, Leduc and the industrial area of Nisku near the Edmonton International Airport. It is also only 60 minutes from Red Deer, 20 minutes away from the cities of Leduc, Camrose and 10 minutes from 4 First Nations (Cree) communities near Maskwacis, AB (formerly Hobbema). Wetaskiwin has all the major amenities, good schools and is an active, family oriented community that is growing and poised for more of the same. The city has just built a new family recreation centre and is engaged in other infrastructure projects.
EBC is a very warm, welcoming, church with a strong vision to missionally reach the community, surrounding region, and unreached peoples around the world with the message of God’s love and forgiveness in Jesus Christ. We are a small city church in a community that bridges the rural and urban mindset. We are a multi-generational church that is comprised of elderly (40%), young families (30%) and middle aged (30%). We are committed to big church (Sunday AM) small church (small groups during the week) and authentic, growing relationships in Christ.
EBC is seeking an assistant pastor who will commit to support and assist the lead pastor and church leadership to fulfill the vision and mission of the church. The candidate would be passionate about and committed to a culture of discipleship over programs and systems, yet have the ability to manage and administrate. They would be a humble learner, they would have the heart of shepherd, they would be missionally driven to share and live out the Gospel. The ideal candidate would have some experience and a track record in reaching and discipling youth and young adults in and outside the church while being committed to encourage and resource parents. The candidate would enjoy partnering with the lead pastor to disciple and resource leaders in the church who are over various ministries such as children’s ministry, small groups, etc., while helping all in our church family discover and operate in their spiritual gifts. The candidate would have some experience preaching and/or a willingness to grow in their preaching ability.
All applicants must be able to subscribe to and affirm the Statement of Faith for the Baptist General Conference of Canada and pass a police background and child welfare intervention check. This is a full time ministry position with a salary and benefits. A Bible college or seminary education is preferred.
