Purpose: First Baptist Church of Worthington is a growing church looking to hire an additional pastor to develop discipleship ministries and share in the preaching and teaching.

Qualifications:

  • BA required; Master Degree from an accredited seminary is preferred
  • Ability to preach and teach effectively
  • Proven track record of effective pastoral leadership (minimum of 3 years’ experience in a ministry position)
  • Proven character and integrity appropriate for church leadership that can be attested to by references
  • Effective problem solver
  • Proven track record of strong interpersonal relationships and emotional intelligence

 

Responsibilities:

Preaching/Teaching (30%)

  1. Preaching 15-20 times per year
  2. Teaching 1-2 adult classes and/or Bible studies per year

 

Adult Discipleship (30%)

  1. Small Groups
    1. Oversee a small group ministry that leads to spiritual growth and meaningful relationship within the church family
    2. Help visitors and regular attenders connect to the larger church body through small groups
    3. Promote and launch new small groups within the congregation
    4. Recruit and train Small Group Leaders
    5. Help develop and provide curriculum for small group discussion
  2. Classes, Bible Studies, and Seminars
    1. Coordinate Adult Classes, Bible Studies and Seminars
    2. Help coordinate and teach membership and baptism classes
    3. Connect new believers with follow-up and one-to-one discipleship
    4. Expand opportunities for classes, programs and seminars in areas such as: Marriage & Parenting, Men’s & Women’s Ministries, Retreats, etc.

Pastoral Care (20%)

  1. Develop and oversee a team that will carry out a visitation ministry
  2. Oversee the distribution of benevolence funds
  3. Provide supervision for lay leaders of other ‘care’ ministries.

Shared Pastoral Leadership (with the Senior Pastor) (20%)

  1. Conduct weddings, funerals and other pastoral services as needed
  2. Provide pre-marriage counselling, short-term counseling (3 sessions or less) and/or counseling referrals for needs that arise within the congregation
  3. Provide support in weekend services through things such as: opening welcome, making announcements, communion, baptisms, child dedications, etc.
  4. Meet regularly with the Senior Pastor
  5. Attend weekly staff meetings
  6. Complete an annual staff evaluation
  7. Other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
