Healthy Pastors Initiative

Sabbatical Preparation Workshop May 8, 2014

Pastor Sam Nikkel (McKernan Baptist Church), Dr. Ray Seutter (psychologist) and Dr. David Williams (Taylor president, theologian/ethicist) are passionate about serving those in pastoral ministry. Workshop sessions will cover the theology of rest, and will explore the practical issues that need to be considered. Topics will also include the common pitfalls of ministry, such as isolation and stress, and focus on some best practices to foster long-term ministry health. Perhaps more importantly, workshop participants will have an opportunity to participate in a caring community of fellow pastors, for discussion, prayer and peer support.

2011 onWORD Conference with Rev John van Sloten "The Day Metallica Came to Church"

John van Sloten shared about how we can hear God's voice in the most unlikely places, and helped us understand the critically important role scripture plays in discerning God's voice. John has written a warm and insightful book called 'The Day Metallica Came to Church', a book that author Leonard Sweet called "amazing", and Dr. Richard Mouw, president of Fuller Theological Seminary, called "reliable and inspiring."

2010 onWORD Conference

The apostle Paul often began his letters with eloquent prayers that contain vital concepts for anyone interested in authentic, dissident discipleship. At Taylor’s 2010 onWORD Bible conference, Dr. Gary Nelson shared insights from a lifetime of study and pastoral leadership in a series of talks called ‘And this is my Prayer for You... Sorting out what Really Matters for the Church.’

E P Wahl Lectures

EP Wahl Lectures have been a significant continuing education event for church leaders, students and academics for almost 30 years. It was established by Dr. E.P.Wahl, the founder and first president of Christian Training Institute, now Taylor Seminary.

The Purpose of the E.P. Wahl Lecture Series is:

  • to encourage those who are serving in local ministry;
  • to address topics of interest and need;
  • to supplement the seminary education of our students;
  • to strengthen the ministry of the seminary to the wider community;
  • to provide a forum for evangelical scholarship.

Under the auspices of this lectureship, a distinguished scholar and ministry practitioner is brought to the campus each year to bring a series of lectures on issues related to the challenges of contemporary ministry.

Taylor Seminary has been honored by numerous accomplished and fascinating presenters including:
